Staged Reading Announcement: Shakespeare’s Greatest Rival.
June 26th at 7pm in the F.R. Matthews Theatre at The University of Calgary.
Shakespeare’s Greatest Rival is about the mercurial and enigmatic playwright Christopher Marlowe. It tracks his atheism, his same-sex attraction, and his employment as a spy while he competes against William Shakespeare as England’s greatest playwright. Set in 1593, the play unfolds against a backdrop of warring religions, an immigration crisis, and a plague that causes theatres to shutter their doors—issues that echo our contemporary times.
Show Announcement: Blue-Eyed Hag
Reprisal of Blue-Eyed Hag coming June 3rd 2023 at the Rose Theatre in Blue Lake Michigan.
Katherine Mayberry interview about Blue-Eyed Hag with Blue Lake Public Radio
From Revue:
“Yes, lovers of Shakespeare will enjoy it. But I’ll go further than that: People new to Shakespeare would do well to start here, to get a sense of the language, and the storytelling style, before moving on to The Tempest. Teachers of young people should move Heaven and Earth, open trees, board ships: whatever it takes to get them to the show.”
From Encore Michigan:
Pigeon Creek executive director Katherine Mayberry describes the play as “alternately laugh out loud funny and hauntingly poignant. Beard does a fantastic job of recreating the structure and mood shifts of a Shakespearean play, but you don’t need to know Shakespeare or The Tempest to enjoy this new story.”
From Broadway World:
“Blue-Eyed Hag explores the themes of power and the treatment of strangers in a lively and engaging script.”
